Sarver, PA – Oberg Industries, a full-service contract manufacturer of precision metal components, tooling and stamping assemblies for more than 69 years, has completed their 80,000 square foot expansion project which began in April of 2015 and is currently operating in their new Precision Machining Center located on their Sarver, PA campus. The new facility was built to better support the needs of their customer partners and the continued growth of their core markets.
This one-year expansion project was contracted through W.K. Thomas and Associates of Butler, PA. The state-of-the-art facility features 80,000 square feet of space, with 65,000 of that being dedicated to production and the remaining 15,000 dedicated to office space. Every aspect of this new plant has been carefully designed to serve a specific, streamlined function. The facility, equipment placement, and work flow are laid out to maximize production efficiency based on lean manufacturing principles. The layout also encourages fast, effective communication between project managers, quality engineers, and manufacturing engineers to accelerate getting new products to market for their customers.
“The Precision Machining Center is an important investment for our customers and our employees to support the future growth of the company”, commented Eric Oberg, Chairman of the Board for Oberg Industries. “A key part of the company’s on-going strategy has been to make strategic investments into three key fundamental areas. The training and development of our skilled workforce; investments into the latest manufacturing technologies; and providing the proper working environment to enable such execution and collaboration. Our new Precision Machining Center is the next important step in this path”.
Much of the equipment in the new plant has been transferred from their Freeport location, along with their operators. With the addition of several new machine purchases, there are currently eighty-five high technology machines in this facility. This includes a wide range of precision 4- and 5-axis machining centers, mill-turn equipment, lathes, quality control equipment, and assembly and support processes. The building also houses a wide variety of surface treatment equipment. The new building was designed to be as green as possible and therefore not a single incandescent bulb can be found anywhere inside. Only LED lighting was used along with specially tooled heating and cooling equipment to be as environmentally sensitive and as efficient as possible.
The 160 employees who work at this location not only have the pleasure of working in a new, state-of-the-art facility, but will also benefit from a large break room/cafeteria and workout room. “This advanced manufacturing facility will give us the space required to support the growing needs of our customer-partners while allowing our employees to increase their efficiency both in the manufacturing and administrative functions”, said David Bonvenuto, Oberg’s President and CEO. “In addition, we realize that the mental and physical health of our employees can benefit our entire company and we are dedicated to better serve our company in this manner”.
