ISO Certification and Continued Expansion in Costa Rica

5/26/2010
Oberg Costa Rica (OCR), an Oberg Industries Company, located just outside of San Jose, Costa Rica, has achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification and plans to expand their manufacturing operations to meet the growing needs of their customers. Since 2002, OCR has been a wholly-owned strategic manufacturing enterprise used to support the company's low cost country (LCC) initiatives. OCR is a full service contract manufacturer specializing in CNC machining, turning, grinding, and EDM while offering in-house assembly and secondary operations including: heat treating, bead blasting, cleaning, and hand finishing.

Oberg Costa Rica will be adding over 6,000 square feet of space by the end of April 2010, bringing the total square footage of manufacturing space to 21,000. OCR has some of the region's most advanced machining equipment and an impressive manufacturing team of nearly 100 highly skilled employees.

"Oberg Costa Rica is well positioned to support customers in our core markets, and especially with the significant growth we have experienced in the Medical Device market", said Robert Wagner, President and CEO of Oberg Industries. "As OEMs continue to formalize their low cost country sourcing initiatives, we believe that Costa Rica will play an important role offering both quality and cost advantages over other areas. We have made investments in our quality department staffing, new equipment, and manufacturing space to support this growth. Achieving our ISO 9001:2008 certification is a first step toward meeting our 2010 growth objectives", added Mr. Wagner. Oberg is currently working towards receiving ISO 13485:2003 certification by the 4th quarter of this year.
