Oberg Industries Expands Industrial Welding Services

5/11/2011
Oberg Industries (Freeport, PA), a manufacturer of precision metal components and assemblies, has expanded its welding support services to complement its metal working operations that include metal stamping, tooling, machining, and grinding.

The company has formed a strategic alliance with Industrial Laser Systems, LLC (ILS) of Pittsburgh, PA. ILS has relocated to Oberg's Sarver, PA campus and will collaborate with Oberg on development programs, prototyping, and short-run production projects. High volume laser welded production assemblies, electron beam welding, transferred arc welding and laser cladding will continue to be provided in cooperation with Joining Technologies of Granby, CT., another Oberg strategic partner.

In addition to validated laser welding, Oberg has recently validated its in-house tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding processes and has AWS certified welding personnel to support its medical customers. With the combination of in-house capabilities and alliance partners, along with precision laser and TIG welding, Oberg can now provide precision laser hole drilling and laser cutting to better support a variety of customer needs in the aerospace, automotive, defense, energy, and medical industries.

Oberg just completed a production manufacturing cell for a customer to produce assemblies that contain precision stamped components that are resistance welded. "With the addition of ILS, Oberg Industries is better prepared to help OEMs select from a variety of welding processes that best fit their specific needs all from one source and free from the constraints of working with multiple vendors," said Wes Elliott, Senior VP of Business and Technical Development with Oberg Industries. Customers that need stamped, machined or ground parts joined together can rely on Oberg and its welding partners to recommend, develop, and ramp into production the best overall welding solution for their application.
